Thierry wanted a guitar strap that would custom fit him and his Maurice Dupont Red 8 strings guitar. He needed a lot of support and padding and a specific width and lenght. After some discussion about the pros and con of a wide, thick and padded strap.

Been a very short strap, I suggested that it would need a certain amount of curvature to seat well. So Thierry actually went ahead and cleverly designed his own strap out of thick plastic, played his guitar with it for a while then sent me the pattern..

The widest part of the strap offers support to his upper back where its needed and not directly on the top of his shoulder where the width would have actually hindered his left arm movement.

For the look and also feel he wanted a strap where just good leather would be the feature. So I used 3 mm vegetable tanned Italian cowhide ,very lightly dyed with my own mix of "violin Tan" dye and Airbrushed a darker burst on the edge. Its padded with closed cell foam and lined with a dark brown garment pigskin suede. Stitched with red Linen saddlery waxed thread and his Dupont carved, embossed and handpainted on the upper back.

The whole process was a lot of fun and I think it turned out to be a very Ergonomic strap. Good for you Thierry, you a gem ;-).
